Why Our Dermatologist Recommends Jan Marini

Our clients often ask which skincare brands are best for their needs. While there are many brands that we recommend, few have managed to create clinical-grade products that are as effective as Jan Marini. With a comprehensive line of products that address a range of skincare concerns, Jan Marini’s dedication to creating products driven by innovative technologies is evident by its quality and efficacy.

“The concentration of the active ingredients in clinical skincare products like Jan Marini is often higher than what you would find in a drugstore alternative, and the ingredient quality tends to be of the highest grade available on the market,” says Dr. Parks, one of our board-certified dermatologists and the co-founder of Eastside Dermatology. “These products offer more in the way of innovation too, as these brands usually invest into product innovation to make their products not only more effective, but safer to use,” he says.

Clinical-grade retinoid products, like the Jan Marini Age Intervention Plus, is a great example of how ingredient quality and innovation come together to deliver powerful effects. A combination of retinol, peptides, and hyaluronic acid work together to gently exfoliate the skin to promote cell regeneration, sloughing away at wrinkles and fine lines without causing the irritation that often comes with using retinoids alone. “This approach means that Jan Marini retinol products are gentle enough to be used around the eye area, for which I always recommend the Jan Marini Age Intervention Eye Cream,” Dr. Parks says.

What is Medical-Grade Skincare?

“When we talk about clinical or medical-grade skincare, what we’re referring to are products that are backed by scientific research,” says Dr. Parks. “These are companies that have invested not just in product development, but in clinical studies to prove the efficacy of their products among a range of consumers,” he says.

Where over the counter skincare products often promise results, only medical-grade skincare products have the scientific research to back their claims. We mentioned ingredient quality earlier on, which is one factor that goes into making medical-grade skincare so much more effective. While these products are often more expensive than their over the counter alternatives, they come with the guarantee that they’ll garner results when used correctly, and a guarantee that the ingredients within them are of the highest quality available on the market. Medical grade skin care products have higher levels of active ingredients than products you would find at a drug store.

Which Jan Marini Product is Right for You?

“While I love the Jan Marini line, I don’t recommend trying out every product at once if you’re not clear on what your goals are,” says Dr. Parks. “Jan Marini also offers their Skin Care Management System, which is a great way to try out a whole regimen of their products.”

It’s always a good idea to see a dermatologist before adding new products to your skincare regimen so that you can discuss your concerns and goals. Our dermatologists are available to answer your questions, and help make product recommendations based on what will work for you and your skin.  Here are some examples of the products we may recommend:

Dry Skin

If you find that your skin feels tight, dry, or itchy—especially after washing—you likely have dry skin. Chronically dry skin can enhance the signs of aging, especially in areas that get more exposure to sunlight like on your face and hands. “Many people come in with concerns about fine lines and wrinkles only to learn that their problem lies in their dry skin,” says Dr. Parks. “Treating the symptom and not the cause can often create more issues, so this is why it’s important to understand both your skin and your goals,” he says.

“The Bioglycolic Face Cleanser is one of my favorite products to recommend to anyone with dry skin,” says Dr. Parks. “This cleanser is gentle but effective at removing excess dirt and oil, but won’t strip the skin to leave it feeling even more dry,” he says. Jan Marini also offers a dry skin management system, which takes away a lot of the mystery of how to care for dry skin and delivers a complete 5-step skincare routine that addresses dryness directly.

Oily Skin

“Many patients come in with concerns about their oily skin and think that the solution is to wash their face more often or use products designed to tame oil production—but the issue with that is that it often causes the body to produce even more oil in response,” says Dr. Parks. “We work with our patients who have oily skin to find products that aim to balance oil production, rather than try to stop it,” he says.

Jan Marini’s Bioglycolic Oily Skin Cleansing Gel is designed to do just that. Its deep follicular cleansing agent is designed to offer powerful results for even the most extreme oily skin. Other products designed for oily skin, such as the C-ESTA Face Serum for Oil Control, offer a way to balance oil production and leave skin glowing with a clinical dose of topical vitamin C.

Aging Skin

“Like I mentioned before, many patients come in with concerns about fine lines and wrinkles only to find that their skin is chronically dry or dehydrated,” says Dr. Parks. “Understanding your skin will help you find the best way to treat it. Aging skin is something that we all deal with, so for this particular problem it will really help to treat both the signs of aging as well as the underlying issues that may be making fine lines and wrinkles more prevalent,” Dr. Parks says.

Jan Marini offers quite a few fantastic products for anti-aging concerns. We linked a few choices for great retinol products above, but we also recommend products like their Juveneck cream for addressing fine lines and wrinkles on the neck area, or the Resurfacing Body Lotion which offers a gently exfoliating lotion for the body. The Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant with SPF can also protect the skin against harmful UV and other toxins that can contribute to fine lines and wrinkles, taking a more preventative approach to aging skin.

These are just a few of the many skin types and concerns that our patients visit us with. Each of these concerns, plus other concerns like sensitive skin or acne-prone skin, can be addressed in the wide range of fantastic products from Jan Marini. The Bioclear Face Lotion is a great choice for acne-prone patients with varying skin types, while the Benzoyl Peroxide can address acne concerns caused by an over-production of oil on the face and body. If you’re unsure which product is best for you, book a consultation with our dermatologists today to get personalized recommendations based on your skin type and concerns.
