Healthy Food That is Good For Your Skin

At Eastside Dermatology we like to keep your skin looking and feeling healthy. Our four recommended healthy foods promote skin health and prevent sun damage. Try using these foods to increase healthy nutrients into your everyday diet.

Dark Chocolate – Dark Chocolate is filled with vitamins, minerals, and flavonoids. Flavonoids act as antioxidants that help the body protect it from free radicals, like sunburn, redness along with other signs of UV skin damage. It can also repair dry skin with the help of its many nutrients (iron, calcium, and vitamins A, B1, C, D and E) that will aid in the moisturizing of your skin.

Green Tea – Green Tea is a type of antioxidant with proven anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties, along with its many benefits. Antioxidants in green tea help neutralize damage from UV rays, while at the same time preventing your skin from wrinkles!

Olive Oil –Olive Oil is full of antioxidants, which help fight back again free radicals that cause skin damage. It is also great to use for hydrating dry skin, olive oil is rich in inflammation-inhibiting antioxidants, which helps repair skin damage and soothe dry skin. As a bonus, antioxidants that are found in olive oil will also reduce the damage leading to wrinkles.

Fruits & Vegetables – Foods high in vitamin C and E produce antioxidants that reduce skin damage from UV rays, protect again DNA damage, skin aging, along with the overall texture of your skin. Vitamin C is necessary for the creation of collagen, which is our skin’s support system. Vitamin C is found in tomatoes, strawberries, and broccoli to name a few. Vitamin E is found in leafy green vegetables, nuts, and whole grains.
