BOTOX® Cosmetic

Eastside Dermatology is proud to offer BOTOX® Cosmetic to residents of Columbus, Ohio. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein used to temporarily reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles. Muscles surrounding your eyes tighten multiple times during the day. The tightening of these muscles eventually leaves creases or wrinkles on the skin. Injecting small doses of BOTOX® Cosmetic directly into these muscles through a tiny needle allows the muscles to relax, and temporarily reduces the appearance of wrinkles. Patients may experience slight discomfort when the needle is inserted, but this is very brief, lasting only a few seconds. The procedure itself takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes, and most patients can return to their daily activities after treatment. Wrinkles will not return for a period of three to five months following treatment. If you continue BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments regularly, its effectiveness may increase and last up to eight months. For more information on BOTOX® Cosmetic, contact our Columbus, Ohio office today.

Sclerotherapy

An alternative to laser vein treatment, sclerotherapy involves the injection of a salt solution into the veins with a very small needle. Sclerotherapy is used to treat spider veins on the legs. This form of laser vein treatment is also performed at our Columbus, Ohio office. The salt solution irritates the lining of the blood vessels, eventually causing the vein to become barely visible or disappear over the course of approximately four to eight weeks. Following the procedure, compression wraps are applied to the treated area and left on until the next morning.

The Obagi Blue Peel®

The Obagi Blue Peel® is an in-office procedure designed to significantly improve the appearance and health of your skin. Using a low concentration of the chemical trichloroacetic acid (TCA) mixed with a special blue base to slow penetration, the Obagi Blue Peel® allows your doctor to effectively remove the thin surface layers of aged and damaged skin from the face or other parts of the body. These dead skin cells are replaced by healthier ones, resulting in firmer, clearer, smoother, healthier, and more youthful looking skin.

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)

Photodynamic therapy is a recently approved development in the treatment of sun damaged pre-cancerous zones and spots called actinic keratoses. It is performed with a topical photosensitizing agent called Levulan (5-aminolevulinic acid) that is activated with the correct wavelength of light emitted from a Blu-U light machine. (This is known as “ALA/PDT treatment.”) With a series of treatments, precancerous lesions can be melted away and one can reduce much of the sun damage that predisposes people to the development of skin cancer. PDT can have cosmetic benefits as well. The signs of sun damage, some fine lines, and blotchy pigmentation have also been shown to improve because of the positive effects of Levulan and PDT. ALA/PDT treatment can also minimize pores and reduce oil glands, effectively improving acne vulgaris and Rosacea. PDT has also been shown to improve the appearance of acne scarring.

Remicade Infusions

Eastside Dermatology is now providing Remicade (Infliximab) evaluation and services for patients with plaque psoriasis of the skin. Remicade is given as an intravenous infusion, based on body weight, over a two-hour period at our office, with a frequency of four to eight weeks, or as needed, after an initial dose of three infusions at zero, two, and four weeks apart. The availability of infusions at the ESD is provided as a service for patients, who will not have to travel to receive the infusions, and to their physicians, who can be assured that the patient in their care will receive skilled evaluation and administration of this therapy. The infusion room at ESD is equipped with many comforts to help the patient relax during the treatment.
