Dark Chocolate – Dark Chocolate is filled with vitamins, minerals, and flavonoids. Flavonoids act as antioxidants that help the body protect it from free radicals, like sunburn, redness along with other signs of UV skin damage. It can also repair dry skin with the help of its many nutrients (iron, calcium, and vitamins A, B1, C, D and E) that will aid in the moisturizing of your skin.

Green Tea – Green Tea is a type of antioxidant with proven anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties, along with its many benefits. Antioxidants in green tea help neutralize damage from UV rays, while at the same time preventing your skin from wrinkles!

Olive Oil –Olive Oil is full of antioxidants, which help fight back again free radicals that cause skin damage. It is also great to use for hydrating dry skin, olive oil is rich in inflammation-inhibiting antioxidants, which helps repair skin damage and soothe dry skin. As a bonus, antioxidants that are found in olive oil will also reduce the damage leading to wrinkles.

Fruits & Vegetables – Foods high in vitamin C and E produce antioxidants that reduce skin damage from UV rays, protect again DNA damage, skin aging, along with the overall texture of your skin. Vitamin C is necessary for the creation of collagen, which is our skin’s support system. Vitamin C is found in tomatoes, strawberries, and broccoli to name a few. You don’t have to be an expert dermatologist to know what’s good for your skin. Knowing your skins limits and what affects your skin is the first step in reaching a healthy body. Foods, vitamins, skin care treatments, drugs and alcohol, stress and sun ray exposure all have a great impact on how your skin looks and feels. How determined are you to reach the beautiful skin that you’ve always wanted?

Below are 5 skin care tips that will help your skin reach its ultimate potential:

1. Protection from the sun

You love the summertime where you can lay outside, soak in the sunrays and get that tan you’ve always wanted, but did you know that a lifetime of sun exposure can cause wrinkles, age spots and other skin problems – as well as highly increase the risk of skin cancer?

For the most complete sun protection:

  • Use sunscreen. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15. When you’re outdoors, reapply sunscreen every two hours — or more often if you’re swimming or perspiring.
  • Seek shade. Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when the sun’s rays are strongest.
  • Wear protective clothing. Cover your skin with tightly woven long-sleeved shirts, long pants and wide-brimmed hats. Also consider laundry additives, which give clothing an additional layer of ultraviolet protection for a certain number of washings, or special sun-protective clothing — which is specifically designed to block ultraviolet rays.

2. Smoking is bad for you

Everyone knows that smoking is bad for you, but do you know the harm that it does to your skin? Smoking makes your skin look older and contributes to wrinkles. Smoking narrows the tiny blood vessels in the outermost layers of skin, which decreases blood flow. This depletes the skin of oxygen and nutrients that are important to skin health. Smoking also damages collagen and elastin — the fibers that give your skin its strength and elasticity. In addition, the repetitive facial expressions you make when smoking — such as pursing your lips when inhaling and squinting your eyes to keep out smoke — can contribute to wrinkles.

If you smoke, the best way to protect your skin is to quit. Ask your doctor for tips or treatments to help you stop smoking.

3. Treat your skin gently

Daily cleansing and shaving can take a toll on your skin. To keep it gentle:

  • Limit bath time. Hot water and long showers or baths remove oils from your skin. Limit your bath or shower time, and use warm — rather than hot — water.
  • Shave carefully. To protect and lubricate your skin, apply shaving cream, lotion or gel before shaving. For the closest shave, use a clean, sharp razor. Shave in the direction the hair grows, not against it.
  • Moisturize dry skin. If your skin is dry, use a moisturizer that fits your skin type. For daily use, consider a moisturizer that contains SPF.

4. Eat a healthy diet

A healthy diet can help you look and feel your best. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. The association between diet and acne isn’t clear — but some research suggests that a diet rich in vitamin C and low in unhealthy fats and processed or refined carbohydrates might promote younger looking skin.

5. Manage stress

Uncontrolled stress can make your skin more sensitive and trigger acne breakouts and other skin problems. To encourage healthy skin — and a healthy state of mind — take steps to manage your stress. Set reasonable limits, scale back your to-do list and make time to do the things you enjoy. The results might be more dramatic than you expect.

With Thanksgiving around the corner, we can’t help but start to think about all of the amazing foods we’re going to be eating in just a few short days. Between the stuffing, the cranberry sauce, and of course, the turkey, our mouths are already beginning to water.

One of our other favorite Thanksgiving dishes is sweet potato casserole, but one thing you may not have known about this dish (and one of the reasons we love it!) is that its star ingredient, the sweet potato, is actually good for your skin!

In one sweet potato, you will find more than 200% of the recommended daily value of vitamin A, which is extremely important for having amazing skin.Vitamin A promotes the growth of new skin cells and increases the rate at which that happens, leaving you with a beautiful and glowing complexion.

The Every-Day Salad Ingredient That’s Great For Your Skin!

Tomatoes. They’re great in a salad, on top of pizza, and even to eat plain. One thing you may never have thought to use tomatoes for, however, is to make your skin look great (we sure never had!).

We found a great article from the Huffington Post all about the great benefits of tomatoes for your skin and hair, and because we’re obsessed with helping you look and feel your best, we just had to share. Here’s the Huffington Post’s list of 7 Amazing Beauty Benefits of Tomatoes:

1. They cleanse and tone skin. Mash one tomato and one avocado into a facial mask. Smooth onto your skin and leave on for 15-20 minutes (TIP: Because tomatoes are highly acidic, it may sting or burn a bit). The tomato deep-cleans dirt and debris, while the avocado restores moisture (sounds like the dream-team, huh?). Wash off with lukewarm water and pay face dry.

2. They shrink large pores. Combine one tablespoon of fresh tomato juice and two drops of lime juice in a small bowl. Dab a cotton swab into the mixture and swipe onto your face in upward circular motions. After about 10 minutes, rinse the solution off with cool water.

3. They treat acne and remove blackheads. A tomato’s acidity is powerful enough to clear up pimples and blemishes. Apply the pulp to the affected area for up to 30 minutes each day, and then rinse off. Do this consistently over two weeks and you’ll begin to notice fewer breakouts.

4. They get rid of oily skin. The above routine can also help reduce shine. Vitamins C and A, as well as amino acids, are known for their oil-minimizing properties. Just be sure to follow up with a hydrating moisturizer after cleansing!

5. They remedy sunburns. If you have any painful burns (why weren’t you wearing your sunscreen!), soothe your skin by rubbing on a cool blend of tomato and yogurt.

6. They add shine to a dull complexion. If you want glowing skin in under 15 minutes, just add a bit of honey to some tomato juice until you’ve created a thick paste. Rub the mask onto your face and relax while it does its thing and then wash off.

7. They condition dry hair and relieve an itchy scalp. Once you’ve shampooed your hair, pour tomato juice onto your stands and leave on for five minutes. The homemade conditioner will remove buildup and help with hydration.

How Does Alcohol REALLY Affect Your Skin?

Sure, sipping a cocktail on the beach or on your favorite rooftop sounds pretty much like a dream come true, but do you ever stop to think about what effects alcohol has on your skin?

Well, they are pretty similar to the effects that alcohol has on the rest of your body. It makes you dehydrated, dry, bloated, and even causes redness. When skin is dry, it’s much more likely to wrinkle and make you look older than you actually are.

Amazing Beauty Uses of Oatmeal

Obviously, oatmeal is great for breakfast. Did you also know that it could be great for your skin? According to an article on, if you’re not feeling oatmeal as a breakfast option, there are some great ways you can use it to enhance your beauty:

Treat Acne: Mix up some plain oatmeal and let it cool. Apply it to problem areas where you’re seeing acne, allow it to dry for 15 minutes and then rinse. The oatmeal will absorb and remove oil and bacteria, while exfoliating dead skin cells at the same time.

Treat Skin Rashes: Grind oats into a powder and put into a cheesecloth or a clean pair of pantyhose. Attach it to the tub’s faucet so the water runs though the pouch. Run lukewarm bath water, squeeze the pouch to saturate the water, and voila!

Moisturize: Add 1 cup of milk, 2 cups of oats and 1 tablespoon of honey to a bath to moisturize skin!

Face Mask: Combine 2 tablespoons of grinded oats with 4 spoonfuls of milk. Add a few drops of lemon juice and apply to your skin for 20 minutes for an amazing (and all-natural!) face-mask.

Body Scrub: Grind 2 tablespoons of oatmeal into a grainy consistency. Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda and a small amount of water to turn into a paste. Scrub on your skin for 10 minutes and you will rinse it off to baby soft skin underneath.
