Benefits of a Microdermabrasion

Many people confuse Microdermabrasion with Dermabrasion, which is an extremely aggressive resurfacing of the skin performed as a surgical procedure under sedation and requiring several days to weeks of downtime. A microdermabrasion is a more gentle advanced form of skin exfoliation and usually requires little to no downtime. Skin is continuously in the process of replacing itself by producing new skin cells. Microdermabrasion accelerates this process by removing dead skin cells in a short time frame. This removal which can be done at Eastside Dematology & Skin Care Center, when repeated in a series, encourages faster production and turnover of new fresh skin cells resulting in clearer, brighter, smoother, healthier looking skin. This treatment may also improve the appearance of stretch marks and scars.

Eastside Dermatology & Skin Care Center in Columbus offers crystal microdermabrasion at their East location and Crystal Free Diamond Tip Microdermabrasion at their Hilliard, Ohio office. Danita Green is the Licensed Esthetician at the Eastside office and B.C. Tilton is the Licensed Clinical Esthetician at the Hilliard location. The two estheticians realize that not everyone is aware of the three different types of microdermabrasion’s.

Home Type

The most gentle form is the home type and is widely overused. This type of manual scrub should be used with very light pressure and only once per week unless directed by a skin care professional to use it more frequently.

Machine Type

The machine types are crystal microdermabrasion, and crystal free microdermabrasion. The crystal microdermabrasion system relies on tiny crystals that are “blasted” against the skin to perform the exfoliation process while suction draws the majority of the crystals and dead skin cells away. The crystal free is also referred to as “Diamond microdermabrasion”. These systems function without any use of crystals.

Exfoliation

The exfoliation is obtained by making contact with the skin with a diamond tipped head which abrades against it. This treatment can be extremely light and freshening or can be very aggressive to treat specific conditions and concerns such as skin rejuvenation, acne, hyperpigmentation, acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, sun damaged skin, uneven or rough skin texture, and will help to clear pores allowing them to appear smaller.
