Liposuction Surgery Information

Many people may find themselves struggling with excess fat deposits even with strict dieting and regular exercise.  In these cases, some choose liposuction to even out the contours of their body by removing these fat deposits and slimming their overall shape.

Liposuction Surgery

Liposuction can be performed on various parts of the body, including the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, and waist. During the procedure, fat cells are broken up and then suctioned out by a thin tube called a cannula.  This entire process is completed with general anesthesia, IV sedation, or completely under local anesthesia.

It's important to understand the possible complications you may experience after the liposuction procedure.  Swelling and mild discomfort are common after having liposuction and will subside over the following weeks and months.  More serious risks include blood clotting, infection, bleeding, and fluid accumulation.

After Surgery

Following the liposuction procedure, the treated areas may be dressed with bandages or a compression garment.  This will allow your body to heal properly and your skin to adapt to your newly shaped contours.  Excess blood or fluid may collect after the surgery, so small drains may be placed at the discretion of your surgeon.  Your doctor will give you a full set of instructions post-surgery that will tell you how to care for the treated areas, the length of time before you may partake in your daily activities, and when your follow-up appointments are scheduled.

Liposuction Results

Liposuction can help patients achieve a more defined, fitter body contour. Most patients enjoy being able to better fit in their clothes and feeling more confident about their overall appearance after liposuction surgery.
